Automation In Focus: Revolutionizing National Day Pack Assembly through Innovative Robotics Solutions by Pocket Technology
We are pleased to highlight an automation milestone that exemplifies technological advancement in Singapore. In this issue of Automation In Focus, we are spotlighting AutomationSG's member: Pocket Technology.
In collaboration with industry partners Solomon Energy, Zimmer Group Asia, and Universal Robots, Pocket Technology unveiled an automated packing system that successfully transformed the assembly operations of the 2024 National Day Parade (NDP) packs. This success story showcases the application of robotics and automation in Singapore and is a testament to the vibrant ecosystem that AutomationSG continues to nurture.
As a key player in the automation landscape, Pocket Technology's solution represents a fusion of robotic precision and intelligent systems, showcasing Singapore's growing advanced manufacturing and automation capabilities.
At the core of this system lies an intricate network of intelligent components. Ten robotic arms equipped with sophisticated Vmeca Magic Gripper technology work in seamless harmony with AI-enhanced AccuPick vision systems. This integration enables unprecedented accuracy in object recognition and handling, while Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) navigate the facility with precision, managing loads of up to one tonne through QR code-based mapping.
When asked about the automation solution's effectiveness, Jeffrey Ong, Managing Director of Pocket Technology, shared, "Compared to its 2022 predecessor, the 2024 system incorporated more advanced AI for higher picking accuracy and a larger throughput, handling up to 1,250 packs daily. It also improved fault-handling capabilities, with features that paused operations for misalignment fixes. These upgrades led to a 30% reduction in manpower requirements, making the system more efficient and reliable."
As compared to its 2022 predecessor, the system has set new benchmarks in operational efficiency. Featuring enhanced fault-handling capabilities and intelligent error management systems, it ensures consistent quality in assembling over 300,000 NDP packs.
Jeffrey Ong also highlighted the solution's broader potential: "This automation model can be applied to logistics, healthcare (e.g., assembling medical kits), and e-commerce for custom packing operations." The implementation offers a blueprint for automation solutions across various industries. From healthcare and logistics to e-commerce fulfillment, this system's adaptability and efficiency showcase the versatility of advanced automation in addressing complex operational challenges.
This achievement by Pocket Technology and its partners stands as an example of how innovation, backed by strong industry collaboration, can drive technological advancement. As we continue to witness the evolution of Singapore's automation landscape, such implementations serve as powerful testimonials to our nation's growing expertise in cutting-edge automation solutions.
